2001

I was in high school back in 2001, a freshman. Towards the end of the year, my best friend at the time started playing with his moms camera for whatever reason. It was a Canon camcorder that recorded on the hi8 tapes. This didn’t even have the flip out screen so everything we recorded had to be viewed through the eyepiece. He brought it to a friends birthday party and started documenting our foolish ways. He even snuck it into school sometimes until one day at home he made the craziest video with another childhood friend of ours.

It was the most hilarious thing we ever have seen, and that was the birth of our stupid videos. We also started doing animations with old toys that were stored away or we bought some because we didn’t have any actors. We invested in Legos, Resident Evil figures, Transformers and just about anything to make a story. It got to the point that I made a video for my history class as a project and got an A. It was the only A that I ever got in that class because school wasn’t my thing.

As the years progressed we kept making more of these stupid videos that were so pointless but it was for our own entertainment. I became very handy with the camera and kept exploring the different effects built in. People would ask me which camera is good to buy and I would give them options depending on what they wanted.

It wasn’t until one summer that I learned even more about video production. There was a summer program that taught video production and we got paid. My first real job at 16 which was pretty cool, we learned how to do white balance, edit and made a video project about the city we lived in. It was fun but I still didn’t think it would be possible to be a filmmaker because I’m an inner-city kid. I thought I was going to work a regular jobthe rest of my life because at that time I didn’t care for college. In fact, I said “its a waste of time people who go to college are stupid”.

Yeah little did I know I was going to be swallowing my own words. As you continue to follow my blogs you will see how everything unfolds.
