Don’t Stop Learning

Don’t Stop Learning

Have you ever reached that point in your life that you have a wealth of knowledge in your career? Maybe you know many things about life and you are known as a walking encyclopedia. The truth is no matter how much you know there is always room for growth and since things are always evolving you need be up to date.

For instance in my career as a filmmaker I would be in serious trouble if I’m not constantly checking what are the latest cameras, film equipment and techniques. It’s practically every three months or less that something new comes out. Since I like post production and doing visual effects, I eventually want to expand and learn how to do it better and get into some animation.

Maybe you are a barber and you want to get with the times so you need to read up on the newest tools and hair products. Especially when it comes to technology it’s good to expand because this provides opportunity which leads to growth. It doesn’t matter if you are a business owner or an employee because you either grow your business or get a promotion and that always becomes motivation to keep going.

And let’s just say it’s nothing career related, what can you learn that will benefit your life outside of work? Sometimes when something needs repair around the house I will look it up on youtube how to fix it. Why should I wait around for my landlord especially if it doesn’t cost much to do it yourself? I like learning how to install new power outlets, simple plumbing, cosmetic repairs and so on. I’ve also learned how to fix certain things on my car which can save me hundreds of dollars.

If you stay stagnant it will hurt you in the long run because the world will pass you by and believe it or not things will become challenging. I’ve also noticed it makes you closed minded especially those that feel like they know it all because of pride or laziness which can keep people from wanting to associate with you. Lets think about it, do you like being around that rude coworker that thinks they know everything and you can’t tell them anything because they are never wrong? How about that one person that cuts corners and instead tries to pass on the work to someone else because they don’t want to take the time to learn?

When you expand your knowledge you show humility instead of pride because you are not afraid to either ask or educate yourself. Let’s look at it this way, does it hurt to learn how to make that special someone their favorite dish? If anything all it does is bare good fruit just don’t burn anything.
