Makeup Artists

Yesterday I interviewed a makeup artist, Lanii Doa and it was very interesting hearing about her story. Now as a filmmaker I speak mostly to cinematographer and editors but have yet to really sit down and talk to someone who does makeup and special fx. I began to learn that they have a very similar struggle and have to stay sharp just like us.

They too have to keep investing in themselves by paying for courses from well known makeup artists and learn about color theory and mixing. I thought wow its not just for lighting, directing and set design its also for makeup depending on the story as well. Now for some of you that might sound like its common sense but I don’t dive into that part of film so I honestly didn’t know.

They also have to grind and hustle because the industry is so saturated that they have to do whatever it takes to stand out. But with social media they can have their personality shine and get recognized whether it be for a narrative film or wedding, photoshoots for models and anything else in between.

I don’t want to drag this on so below is the link to the podcast and you can listen in for yourself.
